Golfer hits hole-in-one at Miri anniversary tourney
MIRI: Aw Yong Jhie Jgin struck gold with a hole-in-one yesterday. The 21-year-old, with a handicap index of 4, won a Mercedes-Benz C200 Ele model at the 25th KGM Amateur Open Golf Championship held at Miri Golf Club (KGM).
The mock key for the coveted prize was handed over by sponsor Sapura Kencana Petroleum Berhad’s Senior Project Manager Wong Sin Min.
Yong from Kelab Golf Bintulu also won fourth place in the 54-Hole Gross category with a score of 235.
Yong’s sensational victory at the 25th anniversary of KGM Amateur Open Golf championship marked the first time that the hole-in-one event has a winner after more than five years.
Meanwhile, the debut category for ladies category of 54-Hole Gross for the KGM Open was won by Michelle Koh from Kelab Golf DiRaja (KGD) Pahang with a score of 219.
Second placing was taken by Dianne Luke from KGM (238) followed by Cheryl Lo from Sabah Golf and Country Club (SGCC) with 243.
The men’s title went to
defending champion Hassan Rahmat from Kelab Golf Bintulu with 230.
Sibu Golf Club’s (SGC) Lee Ka Tung (231) and Leduin Jordan Mobijohn (233) from SGCC were second and third respectively.
The men’s 36-Hole Nett event was won by Asa Laba from KGM with 142 while lady’s title went to Ireen Teng Kim Geok from Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club with 143.
The Silver Jubilee Anniversary golf championship, also known as Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam and Datin Patinggi Puan Sri Datuk Lorna Enan Mulun Chan Challenge Trophies, took place from Sept 20-22.
A total of 202 golfers representing 12 golf clubs from Malaysia and Brunei joined the tournament.
The clubs included Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club, Kelab Golf Labuan, Malaysian Ladies Golf Association (MALGA), Kelab Golf Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, Kota Permai Golf and Country Club, Panaga Golf Club, Pantai Mentiri Golf Club, Sarawak Junior Golf First Academy, Saujana Golf and Country Club, Segamat Country Club and Semarahan Golf and Country Club.
