14 inmates escape from Henry Gurney school in Sabah
KOTA KINABALU - Fourteen juvenile delinquents escaped from their reform school in Keningau by forcing open the grilles of their cell with cloth and sticks early Sunday.
They then wrapped themselves with thin sheets of blanket before climbing out of the perimeter fence. Three of them have been recaptured.
Keningau police chief Deputy Supt Robert Salisip said the Hendry Gurney school warden discovered the juveniles, from Sabah and Sarawak aged between 15 and 19, missing at about 6am while doing his round.
“An alert was sent out almost immediately and police have set up road blocks along the borders here up to Tenom, Ranau, Sipitang, Papar, and Tawau,” he said.
“So far police have recaptured three of them not far from the school,” DSP Robert said.
He said the police were working with the Prisons Department to nab the others.
